Woodworm   

The most common insect responsible for the damage is the Common Furniture Beetle, accounting for approximately 75% of all infestations. At Insite Southern, our surveyors are trained to identify the nature and degree of infestation and recommend suitable remedial work. We use pressure spraying with suitable chemicals, Boron gels and rods, and timber treatment paste to provide long-term penetration and guarantee against the continuation or revival of the attack or decay of those areas specified in the report. 

Damp Proofing  

We recommend a proven method of chemical injection to form an impervious moisture barrier. Our system can be employed on most buildings, and we also offer other methods for non-traditional structures. When rising damp occurs, groundwater deposits hygroscopic salts into the brickwork and plaster, giving the impression of continued dampness. 

To avoid this problem, removing the affected plaster and using a suitable rendering additive is essential. We also provide options to protect external brickwork from penetrating dampness. 

Tanking   

We offer various waterproofing and tanking solutions to transform damp basements into dry habitable spaces. We use cementitious tanking systems for situations where there’s no free-flowing water or risk of flooding, cavity drain membranes to line walls and floors for a dry internal surface, and sealed systems in conjunction with sump pumps for the presence of free water. Our tanking systems can also be used in above-ground structures where conventional damp-proofing methods are inappropriate. 

Fungal Decay   

Dry rot and wet rot are two types of fungal decay that can cause serious damage to timber in a property. At Insite Southern, our trained surveyors can discover and analyse fungal decay and advise on the likely causes of attacks and necessary remedial treatments. For dry rot, affected timber must be cut out and destroyed along with surrounding timber, and plaster must be removed. 

Full chemical fungicidal treatment is applied to exposed masonry and brickwork. For wet rot treatment, all causes of dampness must be eradicated and affected timber replaced. New timbers and surrounding areas must be treated with fungicidal fluids or pastes to safeguard against further attack, and adequate ventilation must be provided. Wall Tie Replacement   

Insite offers a detailed examination using metal detection equipment and a fibre optic endoscope to inspect wall ties between the walls. We then select the most suitable replacement tie from our range, including mechanical, resin and combination ties. We also offer masonry repairs to stabilise walls, cracks, and lintels. Structural Stabilisation  

Insite Southern stabilises cracked masonry using specially manufactured stainless steel helical bars inserted into resin-grouted bed joints or cut slots, which are repointed or made good. Bulged or bowed masonry is stabilised using stainless steel lateral restraint bars, inserted through the outer brickwork and wound into the parallel joists of the internal suspended timber floor. 

Tensile loads are redistributed while the remaining masonry remains flexible enough to accommodate natural building movement. These remedial measures are successful in most traditional buildings and structures and provide resilience against further cracking or distortion to masonry with minimal cost and little disruption to the property owner.
